The Telecaster family went through an expansion in 1972 with the introduction of a new version of the Thinline, originally launched in 1969. This version of the Telecaster featured a semi-hollow ash body with a distinctive single f hole. To compete with other famous electrics that feature humbucking pickups, Fender introduced their own version of the humbucker resulting in the Wide Range Humbucker, designed by Seth Lover.
